Drywood and Subterranean
In California we have two main species of termites; drywood and subterranean. Both species have wings, develop strong colonies, and eat wood structures but they require different treatments.
Drywood termites are more common in Southern CA. They can be controlled in several different ways such as fumigation (tenting), chemical, heat, electrical, or microwave treatments. Each of these options vary in effectiveness and residual. Based on a combination of efficacy studies and real world experience, we choose to offer fumigation and eco-friendly chemical treatments. We also offer a preventative option that can be added.
Subterranean termites live 20-70 feet deep in the soil, so fumigation does not work on them. Proper treatment includes injecting the soil around the perimeter of the home. The termites will travel through the soil where the pesticide sticks to their body as they make their way to their food source (your home). A few hours later they make the journey back home and pass the product throughout the colony through social contact. Fortunately there is no need to vacate during treatment.
We offer a free inspection to determine what treatment plans can be offered.
